著者：1774-1842. スコットランドの神経解剖学者.ベル・マジャンディの法則で有名.

増補第3版(1846)では、Essay on the anatomy of expression as connected with the fine art.とタイトルが変更され、ページ数が265ページになっている。増補されたことで随筆の数も10に増えた。頭部に関する記述が多く、感情からくる表情の表現や、動物の頭部の解剖図なども掲載されている。巻末にはベルによる頭頚部の詳細な神経の図版も添付され、ベルの絵画表現能力の高さが伺える。引用は、キャンパーの顔面角がある。
